Located near the towns of North Conway and Bartlett New Hampshire is the widely popular and historic series of small waterfalls known as Diana's Baths. Once the site of a sawmill that operated for a century run by the Lucy family and sold in 1973 to the US Forest Service and is now a protected historic site within the White Mountains National Forest.
Located in Ulster County New York within the Mohonk Preserve is a spectacular and challenging loop hike that features a very challenging rock scramble that will scale the side Bonticou Crag Mountain and offers views of the Catskill Mountains, the surrounding Shawangunk Mountains and Mohonk Preserve, and much of the Hudson Valley.
Located within The White Mountains National Forest, The Franconia Ridge Loop is a widely popular hike that draws hikers from around the globe. The Franconia Ridge is accessible via a number of well marked and well maintained trails. Much of the ridge is located above the treeline in the alpine zone where there is fragile plant life. This loop route will pass over 2 high peaks above 5,000ft, Mount Lafayette and Mount Lincoln, as well as Little Haystack Mountain at 4,760ft.
Located in Greene County New York in the Catskill Mountains, Kaaterskill Falls is a double tier and one of the tallest waterfalls in the northeastern United States. The upper and lower sections of the falls have a combined height of 260ft. There are a number of trails that give access to the lower falls as well as a viewing platform and ledges.
Located in Greene County New York in the Catskill Mountains, Twin Mountain is a pair of summits that make up one mountain. About one half mile apart and slightly northwest/southeast of each other, the southern summit sits at around 3,560ft while the northern summit is around 3,645ft. This guide focuses on the climb to South Twin Mountain via the Jimmy Dolan Notch Trail(Blue Markers) which has spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains.
Located in Ulster County in New York State is one of the most popular scenic hiking trails in The Catskills. Best to arrive early, very early, as this small parking lot can fill before 6am on weekends during hiking seasons. Just over 2 hours north of New York City, Giant Ledge is accessed along the trail to the summit of Panther Mountain . A mild trail to the ledges at just over 1.5 miles, hikers can elevate the challenge and continue on another 1.6 miles to the summit of Panther Mountain for similar views from roughly 600ft higher. This incredibly popular trail has one of the smallest lots for any trail in The Catskills. Parking is located on Oliverea Road in Phoenicia, New York.
Located in Ulster County in New York State is Wittenberg Mountain. This mountain summit is accessible via a number of rustic trail heads and trail systems. Encompassed within the Slide Mountain Wilderness it is an accessible day hike from various large cities including New York City. A very popular hike it is common to find numerous hikers enjoying the unobstructed views of the summit.
Located in Greene County New York in the Catskills, West Kill Mountain can be climbed as a moderately difficult day hike or when backpacking the entirety of the challenging Devil's Path of which it is a part of. As a single day hike the total mileage is around 6 miles when hiking from the common starting point on Spruceton Road. There is a lot of character to this hike as the trail will change from a mild walk along a stream and waterfall to a grueling ascent to the summit. The hiker parking lots are small for this one so arrive early to assure a space.
Located in Greene County New York in the Catskill Mountains, Hunter Mountain is the second tallest mountain peak in the Catskills at 4,040ft. Although heavily associated with the Hunter Mountain Ski Resort located on the northern side of the mountain and well below the summit, the trails, summit, and terrain offer a spectacular journey through the natural forest of the Hunter-West Kill Wilderness.
This hike has a number of options that can be added or not to make it suitable for a variety of skill levels. There are a number of water falls along the trail and this is where it gets it's name. It is also part of the longer Franconia Ridge Loop Trail, although this beautiful trail and summit of Little Haystack Mountain is a great day hike all on it's own. This is roughly a 3 mile climb to the summit of Little Haystack with an approximate elevation gain of 3,000ft. The first half of this trail has a number of water falls including the 80ft high Cloudland Falls which is about 1.2 miles from the trailhead. Cloudland Falls may be the turn around point for a family day hike as the difficulty increases from this point forward to the summit.
