Falling Waters Trail Trail Guide

This hike has a number of options that can be added or not to make it suitable for a variety of skill levels. There are a number of water falls along the trail and this is where it gets it's name. It is also part of the longer Franconia Ridge Loop Trail, although this beautiful trail and summit of Little Haystack Mountain is a great day hike all on it's own. This is roughly a 3 mile climb to the summit of Little Haystack with an approximate elevation gain of 3,000ft. The first half of this trail has a number of water falls including the 80ft high Cloudland Falls which is about 1.2 miles from the trailhead. Cloudland Falls may be the turn around point for a family day hike as the difficulty increases from this point forward to the summit.

Key Features
  • One of the most beautiful trails in the White Mountains.
  • Little Haystack Mountain at 4,760ft.
  • Option to continue on the Franconia Ridge.
  • Unobstructed views from Little Haystack.
  • Little Haystack is alpine terrain.

It can not be stressed enough to plan accordingly for venturing out into the wilderness whether it is for a multi-day backpacking trip or even for the simplest of day hikes. An innocent stray off course and an easy overlook of essential gear can result in disaster with life threatening consequences in an instant, even for the most avid backcountry trekker.
